Walking the Retreats of Glaciers (2023)

In April 2023 I was part of The Arctic Circle: Residency for Art and Science, a self-directed residence sailing aboard the tall ship Antigua. The two-week journey led participants to some of the most isolated areas in the high arctic, navigating around the west coast of Svalbard to reach beyond 80 º north latitude, nearing the North Pole. My intention was, through my art practice, to put myself in this environment, a place I feel I nor many people should ever be, to draw more attention to the climate crisis, continuing colonization, and dire need for urgent action. It was and is an act of hope; an act of and call for extreme reverence, the most profound love, the deepest grief, and rejection of arrogance, entitlement, and violence. It was and is, an alert, a call for extreme action, an alarm, a warning, a distress call, an EMERGENCY –

The first video below, Kronebreen red sample is a short excerpt of a 20 minute film, Woven Prayers on Melting Ice, that can travel as a film to festivals and gallery settings. The images above can also travel alone or with the film in gallery settings with the option for the full realization of the work which would include a live performance amidst the installations of the large scale images and film.
